MCS-150 / Biennial Update

Required every two years for every USDOT number, and any time your company details change.

Every company with a USDOT number has to update its MCS-150 every two years, even if nothing changed, and any time your address, ownership, fleet size, drivers, or type of operation changes. The MCS-150 is the record FMCSA, insurers, brokers, and the UCR Plan all read when they look you up.

Since FMCSA moved registration into Motus, the update is filed through your company's Motus account. We review what FMCSA has on file, update what changed, and file it once you add us as your filing agent.

When Is My MCS-150 Due?

Your due month comes from your USDOT number. The last digit sets the month: 1 is January, 2 is February, and so on, with 9 for September and 0 for October. The next-to-last digit sets the year: an odd digit files in odd-numbered years, an even digit in even-numbered years.

For example, USDOT 1234567 ends in 7, so it is due in July, and the 6 before it is even, so it is due in even years. You can check your USDOT number to see your exact month and the date of your last update.

Why the MCS-150 Matters

FMCSA can deactivate a USDOT number that misses its update. In 2026 FMCSA paused those deactivations while it works through Motus problems, but the requirement still applies, and FMCSA has said it will give notice before enforcement resumes.

Your MCS-150 vehicle count also sets your UCR bracket, and brokers and insurers use your listed fleet, drivers, and mileage to vet you. An outdated record can cost you loads and money even when nobody is enforcing the deadline.

How MCS-150 Filing Works

  1. Enter your USDOT number. We show your due month and what FMCSA has on file.
  2. Tell us what changed. We prefill everything else from your current record.
  3. Your company official adds ICR Filings as a filing agent in Motus using our filer number. We never ask for your Login.gov password.
  4. We file the update, confirm it posts to your record, and email you your next due date.

Not set up in Motus yet? Start with Motus account setup. Your USDOT number shows inactive? See USDOT reactivation.

What It Costs

Our service fee for an MCS-150 update is $149. There is no government fee.

MCS-150 Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to file if nothing changed?

Yes. The update is required every two years on your schedule even if every detail is the same.

What happens if I miss it?

FMCSA can deactivate the USDOT number. Deactivations are paused in 2026 while Motus issues are worked out, but the filing is still required and enforcement can resume after notice.

Why do I need Motus access?

FMCSA now accepts MCS-150 updates through Motus. Your company official adds us as a filing agent, which lets us file without ever having your login.

How long does it take?

Usually one business day once you have added us in Motus.

Does the MCS-150 affect my UCR?

Yes. UCR fee brackets are based on the vehicle count FMCSA has on file, so keeping it accurate keeps your UCR fee right.
