Cancel a USDOT or MC Number

Deactivate a USDOT number or revoke MC authority you no longer use.

If you have closed your trucking company, sold your trucks, or no longer need operating authority, it is worth closing your numbers properly. An active number you are not using still comes with filing requirements, and a lapsed insurance filing on active authority can lead to a suspension on your record.

When to Cancel

  • You closed the business or stopped operating trucks
  • You now drive under another carrier's authority as a leased owner-operator
  • You no longer need MC authority but want to keep your USDOT number
  • You want to close a duplicate USDOT number

Before You Cancel

UCR is still owed for any year you operated interstate, and state accounts such as IFTA and IRP are closed separately with your base state. We check for these and let you know what else to close.

How It Works

  1. Tell us whether to cancel the USDOT number, the MC authority, or both.
  2. Your company official adds us as a filing agent in Motus.
  3. We file the deactivation or voluntary revocation.
  4. We confirm the status change and email you a record of it.

What It Costs

Our service fee is $99. There is no government fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reactivate later?

A deactivated USDOT number can usually be reactivated. Revoked MC authority may need a reinstatement request or a new application, depending on how long it has been.

Do I still owe UCR?

Yes, for any year you operated interstate before cancelling.
