When Is My MCS-150 Due? How to Find Your Biennial Update Date
Updated October 13, 2026
Every company with a USDOT number has to update its MCS-150 every two years, even if nothing changed. The schedule is built into your USDOT number.
Step 1: the last digit sets the month
| Last digit | Month due | Last digit | Month due |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | January | 6 | June |
| 2 | February | 7 | July |
| 3 | March | 8 | August |
| 4 | April | 9 | September |
| 5 | May | 0 | October |
Step 2: the next-to-last digit sets the year
If the next-to-last digit is odd, you file in odd years (2027, 2029). If it is even, you file in even years (2026, 2028).
Example: USDOT 1234578. The last digit is 8, so the month is August. The next-to-last digit is 7, which is odd, so the update is due August 2027.
Skip the math: enter your USDOT number and we show your due month, next due date, and the last update FMCSA has on file.
When you need to update sooner
- You moved or changed your mailing address
- You changed your legal name or ownership
- Your number of trucks or drivers changed significantly
- You changed your operation, for example from intrastate to interstate
What you need to file
- Truck, trailer, and driver counts
- Total miles driven last year
- Cargo types and hazmat details, if any
- Access to your company account in Motus
Deactivation and the Motus pause
A missed update can lead to USDOT deactivation and civil penalties. Because of problems during the Motus rollout, FMCSA has paused deactivations for missed updates due since June 1, 2026, until further notice. The update is still required, and FMCSA has said it will give notice before enforcement resumes.
