2027 UCR Fees and Deadline: What Every Carrier Owes
Updated October 13, 2026
Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is an annual registration for businesses that operate commercial vehicles in interstate commerce. The 2027 registration year opened on October 1, 2026, and registration must be complete before January 1, 2027. Fees went up about 20 percent from 2026.
2027 UCR fee by fleet size
| Vehicles | 2027 UCR fee |
|---|---|
| 0 to 2 | $55 |
| 3 to 5 | $167 |
| 6 to 20 | $333 |
| 21 to 100 | $1,163 |
| 101 to 1,000 | $5,548 |
| 1,001 or more | $54,165 |
Brokers and leasing companies that do not operate trucks pay the $55 bracket.
Who has to register
- For-hire motor carriers operating across state lines
- Private motor carriers hauling their own goods across state lines
- Brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies
Interstate commerce includes freight that crosses a state line at any point in its trip, even if your truck stays in one state, such as hauling containers to or from a port. Carriers whose trucks and freight never cross state lines generally do not need UCR.
How your vehicle count is figured
Carriers can use either of two counts:
- The number of commercial vehicles on your most recent MCS-150, or
- The number of commercial vehicles owned or operated in the 12 months ending June 30, 2026.
Vehicles used only within one state can be excluded, and trailers do not count. If your fleet changed, an outdated MCS-150 can put you in the wrong bracket. You can check your current count and bracket here.
What happens if you miss it
States enforce UCR at roadside inspections and weigh stations starting January 1. Penalties vary by state, and some states will not renew IRP or IFTA credentials without a current UCR.
Carriers based in Florida and other non-participating states
Ten states and DC do not participate in UCR, including Florida, Arizona, and New Jersey. Carriers based there still register, using a participating state where they operate. See UCR for Florida carriers.
