SCAC Code
New SCAC codes and renewals for Class 8 carriers.
A Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC) is a two to four letter code that identifies your company to shippers, ports, railroads, and government agencies. NMFTA issues SCAC codes and they renew every year.
Who Needs a SCAC Code?
- Carriers hauling intermodal containers or working at ports and rail yards
- Carriers hauling government freight
- Carriers working with shippers or brokers that require one
- Carriers crossing the border that need it for customs filings
Class 8 Carriers Only
Since February 2026, NMFTA requires carriers whose vehicles are 33,000 pounds or less to apply directly with NMFTA, so third-party services can only file for Class 8 carriers. If your trucks are not Class 8, we will point you to NMFTA instead of taking your order.
