Reactivate Your USDOT Number
Get an inactive USDOT number back to active status.
An inactive USDOT number cannot be used for most filings, and brokers and shippers will not book a carrier that shows inactive. The good news is that most inactive numbers can be reactivated with the right update, without applying for a new number.
Why USDOT Numbers Go Inactive
- A missed MCS-150 biennial update
- The company marked itself out of business or asked to deactivate
- Old records that were never moved into Motus
- FMCSA administrative action
A number placed out of service by FMCSA for safety or enforcement reasons is different. It cannot be fixed by filing an update, and we will tell you up front if that is your situation.
Why It Matters
While your number is inactive you cannot file UCR, update your record, or keep authority active, and anyone who looks you up sees an inactive company. Reactivating it keeps your history and avoids starting over with a new number.
Before You Start
- Your USDOT number
- Current company details, fleet, drivers, and mileage
- Access to your company's Motus account, or help setting it up
How Reactivation Works
- Enter your USDOT number. We check its status and the reason it went inactive.
- We confirm what needs updating and collect your current details.
- Your company official adds us as a filing agent in Motus.
- We file the update that reactivates your number and confirm when it shows active.
What It Costs
Our reactivation service is $149. There is no government fee.
