Motus is FMCSA's new registration system. It replaced the old FMCSA Portal and PIN process, and every company with a USDOT number now needs a Motus account to file updates, change details, or authorize someone to file for them.
Setup trips up a lot of carriers: Login.gov accounts, identity verification that fails, and USDOT numbers that will not link. We walk you through every step and fix the problems along the way.
Who Needs Motus Setup?

Why It Matters
Without a claimed Motus account you cannot file your MCS-150, change your address, reactivate a number, or apply for new authority. Most of the filings on this site depend on it.
Before You Start
- Your USDOT number
- The company official's email and a phone that can receive texts
- A government ID for identity verification
- The email on your old FMCSA Portal account, if you had one
How Motus Setup Works
- We send you a short checklist and video walkthrough.
- The company official creates or signs in to Login.gov and completes identity verification.
- You claim your USDOT number in Motus.
- You add ICR Filings as a filing agent using our filer number, so we can file for you in the future.
- We review your record and flag anything that needs updating.
We never ask for your Login.gov password or security codes. You keep full control of your account.
